My name is Sara Agnew. I am a graduate student at the University of Oklahoma, working on my Master's of Library and Information Studies. I work as a graduate assistant to two professors in the Library School. I have finished the required credits for the major and will be taking my comprehensive examination in the spring.
While I have worked in libraries several times in the past, I have no actual reference desk experience, which is why I have created this livejournal. I hope that I can help you as writers, and you in return can help me as a library student. I need experience answering reference questions, and you sometimes need reference questions answered over the course of your writing. I can't answer every question I'm given, but I'll try to answer several every day.
Here's how it works:
Every day, I will post with the answers to as many of the previous days questions as I can. If I get a lot of hard questions, I may only answer one or two. If they're easy, I might answer a lot of them.
Then you reply with with the questions you need answered for the previous day. Here's the information I need:
Name: Give me something to call you by. It doesn't need to be your real name.
Question: Tell me what you need to know. The more details you give me, the easier it will be to answer your question.
Library: I need to know the name of your local library. If you're in college, give me the name of your college and its library. Otherwise give me the name of the library that you have a library card at. This tells me what resources are available to you. If you don't have a library card, then just type in "web-based only."
Then the next day I'll post with answers to as many of the questions as I can, beginning with the first question posted. The sooner you comment, the more likely you are to get an answer.
Thank you for your help!
